Industrial design protection in Iraq
Preparing your application
Protecting a product’s appearance starts with an application that clearly presents the design and meets the applicable filing requirements. Our team assists with preparing the application and supporting documents, and confirms the drawings, representations, and any physical models required for the particular filing.
Protection term and annual fees
Iraqi law provides a ten-year term of industrial design protection from the date the registration certificate is issued, subject to payment of the prescribed annual fees. These payments maintain the registration during its protection term; they do not extend the ten-year period.
The legal framework
Industrial design protection is governed by Law No. 65 of 1970, as amended. CPA Order No. 81 of 26 April 2004 amended the legislation and renamed it the Patents, Industrial Design, Undisclosed Information, Integrated Circuits and Plant Variety Law. Further amendments followed, including Law No. 58 of 2015.
